The Government of Tamil Nadu provide the benefit to both the mother and the newborn baby by offering a nutritional kit to the mother. The government has introduced the ” Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme”(MRMBS). To reduce the maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate in Tamil Nadu, the government is coming up with this new initiative. All pregnant women can avail the benefit of the TN Muthulakshmi Reddy Scheme. The government provided the financial help of Rs 18000 to the pregnant women to fulfil their nutritional needs. The amount will be given in three instalments during the period of the 9-month Journey. 

The total amount includes 18000, of which 14000 is a cash amount, and the remaining 4000 includes two nutritional kits. This is a great help from the Tamil Nadu State Government for the pregnant lady. The women also get rupees 5000 under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. All these benefits are provided by the state government and the Central Government for pregnant ladies. Women will get the financial assistance from the state government during their 4th month of pregnancy till the 9th month after delivery. The nutritional kit will be provided by the government during the third month of pregnancy, and the second kit will be provided during the 6 months of pregnancy. TN Muthulakshmi Reddy Scheme 2026

Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit is one of the women’s welfare schemes launched by the Tamil Nadu Government for the benefit of mothers and their children. The government introduced the scheme in Tiruchi City in 2025. More than 10000 women have already benefited under the scheme, as per the government data. All the beneficiaries who can fulfil the eligibility criteria and the conditions given by the government will benefit under the scheme. The nutritional provided by the government includes health mix, iron syrup, cotton towel, plastic basket with two handles, food-grade plastic cups and dry dates.

The scheme applies to all women from the financial year 2024-25. Those who have already registered under the MRMBS 1.0 scheme are directly eligible for the MRMBS 2.0.  There are so many other conditions for women to avail the benefit of the nutritional kit and financial assistance under Maternity when it comes to Tamil Nadu. Main Points

Eligibility Criteria for MRMBS

• To avail the benefit of the scheme the each criterion is above 18 years and below 55 years.
• Women should be permanent residents of Tamil Nadu State.
• The woman who has registered themselves they must confirm pregnancy through the urine test and blood test, or an ultrasound report with the hospital letter or a signature on it.
• Women belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the schedule tribes and having a BPL Ration card are eligible for the scheme.
• The women having an e-Shram card MANREGA job card are also eligible for the scheme.
• The government provide the maternal benefit for only the first two deliveries.
• The migrant mother from the other state involved in road works, and others are eligible for the scheme.
• The women who are the beneficiaries of Kisan Samman Nidhi and Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana under the Ayushman Bharat scheme are also eligible for maternity benefits.
• The annual family income should be less than 8 lakh per annum.
• The women who are the beneficiaries of the Tamil Nadu Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam scheme can also get the benefit of the Maternity scheme.
• The woman with a Sri Lankan Refugee card is also eligible.
• The women who delivered their baby at a Private hospital approved under the scheme are eligible.

Not Eligible

• The women who are regular employees of the centre and state governments are not eligible to get Maternity Benefit and a nutritional kit from the state government.

Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Funds and Nutritional Kit Transfer

• The government start delivering nutritional kits to the beneficiary women from the third month of their pregnancy.
• The financial assistance of Rupees 6000 for the first instalment will be given at the 4th month of pregnancy.
• For that, the women should provide a check recorder.d
• At the sixth month of pregnancy, the second nutritional kit worth Rs 2000 will be given to the women.
• The second instalment of Rupees 6000 will be given after the fourth month of pregnancy for both first and second pregnancies.

• The newborn baby should have received all the doses of vaccination which are required till 4 months after delivery.
• The third instalment of rupees 2000 will be given after 9 months of delivery.
